For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23
It is clear from that verse that God came to give us life, but that is only half of the story. Before we can have this gift, we need to get it, i.e., we need to actively take it and receive this gift. When someone gives you a present, you won’t receive it until you take it. The present can be held out to you, but until you take it, you won’t be able to receive it.
Growing up in a Christian family I did not realise the fact that I had to receive this gift for my own. I had always thought that because my family were Christian, I’d be ok. The truth is, we are all responsible for our own actions and becoming a Christian has nothing to do with family heritage, instead it is a personal decision that you make, to have a personal relationship with God.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23
This applies to everyone, nobody is exempt, not even someone like Mother Theresa. We are all sinners and we need to come to God and receive the gift of life from Him. Have you got it?
